Society, Culture and Heritage: 18 new educational activities for 2021-2022 Society, Culture and Heritage: 18 new educational activities for 2021-2022 ============================================================================ General 13 Σεπτεμβρίου 2021 **In May 2021, CIVIS launched a call for proposals to develop challenge-driven educational activities focused on Society, Culture and Heritage (Hub 2), one of CIVIS’** [**five focus areas**](http://civis.eu/en/activities/civis-hubs) **also called "Hubs".** The aim of these educational activities, developed in line with the UN sustainable development goals, is to provide CIVIS' students with new skills and knowledge, and support their entrepreneurial mindset to better tackle society’s biggest challenges, locally and globally. **This was the first call for CIVIS' Hub 2 activities**. It aimed to collect a manifestation of interests of academics from the 9 member universities willing to collaborate with other European colleagues on this societal challenge. **The call closed on 30 June 2021 and the Hub 2 Council received 19 proposals, among which 18 were selected and approved by the Steering Committee.** Requirements for eligibility ---------------------------- In the context of this call for educational activities, **proposals had to respond to the following requirements :** - Involve at least 3 or more universities - Be related to CIVIS Hub 2 focus area: Society, Culture and Heritage **Proposed activities could be in various formats**: courses, summer schools, workshops, semesters, project supervision and research exchanges. The activities could include training & research projects with students as well as workshops/meetings of academic staff to develop future joint activities. **Lastly, proposals had to encompass research-driven and challenge-based educational activities that target the following focal challenges:** - Mediterranean Studies: Diachronic and Intercultural Perspectives - Heritage and Global Epistemologies - Diverse Societies, Inequality and Social Change - Multicultural and Multilingual Communication and Education - Law, Norms, Ethics and Political Institutions For information purposes, all five focus areas have been addressed among the 19 proposals. However, there was a strong interest in the focus areas "Mediterranean Studies: Diachronic and Intercultural Perspectives" and "Heritage and Global Epistemologies", whereas the fields related to social sciences were addressed less. To compensate for these deficits, a second call will be launched in November 2021.
